Iran Commentary Claims Erikson `Spying` on Iranian Telecom Capabilities
Tehran-e Emruz online
Saturday, December 1, 2012

Commentary by Mohammad-Hoseyn Ja`fariyan: “The False Medicine of the Westerners”

Since the start of extensive international sanctions against our country, there have been concerns over the procurement of specialized medicine and their import into the country. Assuming a humanitarian gesture, Western countries claimed that these sanctions do not include medicine and specialized vital medial equipment but the passage of time has shown that they are lying. This was proven by their own media, including the El Monitor, which has recently reported and confirmed that despite the cancelation of the sanctions on medicine, as a result of widespread Western banking and financial sanctions against Iran, particularly by the United States, various manufacturers of medicine and medical equipment, have no facilities for trading with Iran! Please bear this in mind and also take note of the fact that recently, the Reuters News Agency has published a report claiming that the Swedish company Ericsson, which is the biggest manufacturer of mobile phone equipment in the world, has begun extensive collaboration with Iran in the field of developing mobile networks in Iran and the company`s spokesperson, Frederick Halestan (?), has reported that in 2008 Ericsson signed a contract with Iran in the field of telecommunication equipment and it remains committed to this contract. He added that they will support the establishment of a new mobile operator in Iran by 2021.

In recent months, different Western companies have refused to cooperate with our country in the most simple matters using a variety of pretexts and have even canceled their long term contracts. A large number of oil projects in the south of our country is a good example of this fact. Using this excuse, they have even removed Iran`s television networks from European satellites and as it was mentioned earlier, they are hesitant in providing vital medicine to sick people in our country. In view of these facts, why is Ericsson prepared to continue its collaboration with Tehran? This Swedish company has extremely widespread activities and colossal investments in the United States and according to US sanctions, any country that has trade with Iran worth over $50,000, will be deprived of any trading with financial centers and banks in this country. Is it credible that the Swedes have closed their eyes to the multi billion dollar US market and have preferred their contract with Iran, which at most is worth a billion dollars? The answer to the above question is undoubtedly negative. Therefore, it must be accepted that they have maintained their presence in the sensitive Iranian telecommunication sector with Washington`s knowledge and approval. In this case, do they have any objective other than espionage and obtaining information regarding our country`s telecommunication abilities? You may have heard that in his trip to Gaza, the emir of Qatar gave presents to Hamas leaders that were equipped with trackers, thereby facilitating their assassination by the Israeli army. Our country`s officials must beware of such mischief and determine why the people who are not prepared to sell us medicine have accepted to make sensitive equipment available to us.

Pakistan Article Says Israel Plans to Seek US Forces Help in Attacking Iran
The Nation Online
Sunday, December 2, 2012

Article by Imran Malik: “Israel and its Abiding Insecurities”

The death and destruction that Israel wreaked upon Gaza recently reflected its compulsive sense of insecurity. At the same time, it had a deep strategic purpose and intent as well.

Ever since Israel`s birth, it and its Western allies have been consumed by its (in)security imperatives. They have exploited all avenues - military, political, diplomatic, economic, intelligence, technical, informational et al to ensure its security behind the ever-expanding borders. These expansions were ruthless in concept and execution, and trampled over all norms of justice and humanity.

A two-pronged policy was put in motion to satiate Israel`s abiding insecurities.

First, a rather successful effort was made to reduce the stature of the Palestinian issue and make it as irrelevant to the international geopolitical order as was possible. It was progressively and deliberately degraded from a global to a Muslim world to a Middle Eastern problem, and then to an Arab and later a Palestinian issue only. After Yasser Arafat`s death (murder - ?), it was further split between the Palestine Authority and Hamas. Thus, the issue had been shrivelled to its lowest and basest level possible. However, this atrocity has now been offset, to some extent, by the granting of non-member observer state status to Palestine by the UNGA.

Simultaneously, Israel was made impregnable. First, it was armed and equipped to become the most dominant and singular military and nuclear power in the region. Second, an ever-expanding perimeter of security was devised to gradually neutralise all possible threats to it. In a series of concentric crescents centring on Israel and radiating inland, all possible threats to it were progressively pacified, neutralised and/or bludgeoned into submission. Through a savage mix of wars, coercive diplomacy, economic inducements, and sanctions and political patronage to the regional monarchs or rulers, the US-led West subdued and neutralised all of Israel`s immediate and regional neighbours and the possible threats emanating thereof.

Now Israel wants the US-led Western juggernaut to further expand its perimeter of (in)security to include Iran and ominously its nuclear programme!

Gaza was just the start point!

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu`s foray into Gaza was a very calculated move with very deep political and strategic objectives. It was the first step towards the creation of the desired strategic regional environment for eventual operations against Iran.

Prime Minister Netanyahu was mindful of the Israeli elections scheduled for January 2013 and had to come across as a decisive and proactive leader, who could look the US in the eye and take tough independent decisions for Israel`s security. Further, he wanted to demonstrate his essential freedom of action from Obama`s US.

Israel`s aerial blitz in Gaza was the initiation of its Preparatory Phase for operations against Iran. By attacking Hamas and destroying almost 90 percent of its missile launching capabilities and sites in Gaza, Israel has, probably, reduced the short-range threat to a very large degree. Fatah and the Palestinian Authority would, probably, be dealt with/pacified/neutralised next.

Israel can arguably deal with Hezbollah and Lebanon as and when required. Syria is already being dealt with by the US-led Western powers and, in all probability, will soon be subdued and neutralised. It too will fall in line like Libya, Tunisia, Yemen and Egypt. The Arab monarchies of the GCC stand neutralised through political, diplomatic and economic pressures, and congruent national interests. Thus, the medium-range threats too will stand neutralised.

And the US and its allies are already in the region.

So, the required strategic environment for the final assault on Iran is nearing closure!

However, the timing of the attack will be critical. Israel would want the attack to take place before th e US/Nato/Isaf egresses from the AfPak Region (APR). This would have two very important strategic connotations:

One, at the moment, the US is literally surrounding Iran from all sides - Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan (Balochistan) (through Jundullah) and through its naval assets in the Persian Gulf. It could attack Iran from multiple directions, instigate simultaneous internal upheavals and force a regime change. Iran and its nuclear programme could thus be realistically threatened.

Two, the longer the US-led West waits for the economic sanctions to take effect, the closer Iran would get to weapons-grade enrichment levels making Israel feel that much more insecure!

If the war weary US-led West does not find a political or diplomatic way to stop Iran`s headlong march towards enhanced nuclear enrichment very soon, an impetuous, arrogant and increasingly insecure Israel could do the (un)thinkable. It could attack Iran `unilaterally`, and suck the US and its allies into a violent regional conflagration that might even assume global dimensions. `Time and timing`, for vastly different reasons, are thus critical and decisive for all players in this imbroglio - the US, Israel and Iran!

But then, will Israel`s insecurities end with bludgeoning Iran and ostensibly eliminating its nuclear programme? Will it feel secure enough? Where will it take the world from there? Nuclear Pakistan lies to Iran`s east. Do the Israelis consider it also a future threat? Will Israel`s insecurities force the US-led West to tackle nuclear Pakistan after Iran? Apparently, Pakistan will be an altogether different kettle of fish to deal with. It is a nuclear power with reasonable strategic reach.

However, the US-India-Israel nexus against Pakistan is already in existence and operational. The Israeli military collaboration with India, in particular in Indian Held Kashmir (IHK), is well known and documented. Israel (as well as the US) is enhancing the Indian military capabilities, which will be used against Pakistan.

Israel is, in fact, already sitting in Pakistan`s backyard - in IHK. Is a deep US-Indo-Israeli outflanking manoeuvre against Pakistan already in place for possible exploitation at an appropriate time in the future? Could it be to obviate a possible alliance between a nuclear Pakistan and a futuristic nuclear Iran? Can it do so? Can the international community live with such a possible nuclear Iran-nuclear Pakistan alliance? It could change the geopolitical and geostrategic dimensions and imperatives of the region and the globe permanently!

Israel`s compulsive insecurities know no bounds. It is running short of time and options.

The world awaits with bated breath its next move!

Article Warns of Possible Military Attack by US, Israel on Pakistan, Iran
The Frontier Post Online

Article by Asif Haroon Raja: “Iran and Pakistan are Next Targets of USA

America and its allies are persecuting and bleeding the Muslims for over decades. Notwithstanding its imperialistic designs and penchant to harm Muslims interests, the Muslim states themselves are also responsible for the sorry state of affairs within the Muslim world. Notwithstanding all out support of the US and the west to Israel in its creation and build up, Arab states are also responsible for turning tiny sized Israel into most powerful state of the region because of their disunity and submissiveness to USA.

Palestinian issue has lingered on for 65 years because of the deplorable state of affairs within the Arab world. Mullah Omar`s regime wouldn`t have crumbled that easily had Pakistan not ditched its neighbour and sided with the invader. The whole world including the Muslim world backed the invasion. Saddam Hussain`s regime was brought down in May 2003 because Kurds and a religious sect in Iraq had joined hands with the aggressors and all the Arab neighbours had supported the aggressors while Iran looked the other way.

Uprisings in Tunisia and Egypt named as Arab Spring were instigated by CIA-Mosad and executed by Qatar to reshape Middle East and muster wider acceptance for apartheid Israel. It is a different matter that later events spun out of control of the schemers and Islamic parties took over. Few hundred anti-Qaddafi runaway Libyans residing in USA aided by CIA and NATO air-power ousted Qaddafi from power and killed him in 2011.

Syria is currently in the firing line and the opponents of President Assad misled by foreign powers are striving hard to bring down his regime. So far 30,000 Syrians have died in the infighting but Assad with 12% Alawite minority is defiant and wants to continue ruling 83% Sunni population. But for Russian and Chinese intervention, by now the US would have obtained UNSC sanction to authorize NATO to step in and assist the opposing forces in Syria and then form a government of its choice.

Two other Muslim countries, Iran and Pakistan in the firing line are awaiting their turn. Lot of groundwork has already been done by USA and its allies to soften up the targeted countries from within through covert war. Reformist Party in Iran is sponsored by USA but despite receiving millions of dollars during the last two elections, it couldn`t defeat Ahmadinejad run ruling party which has struck deep roots among the masses because of its anti-US and anti-Israel stance.

Although Iran has been sufficiently isolated and put under harsh sanctions and now attempts are being made to block its oil exports so as to force it to abandon its nuclear program, Ahmadinejad is continuing to defy US-EU blackmailing tactics. Oil, geo-strategic location, effective leadership and resilient youth are assets which enable Iran to withstand external pressures. It is in a position to choke Strait of Hormuz through which one-third of oil flows to Europe. It has powerful guided missiles that can hit Israel with ease.

The situation in Pakistan is not so bright. One of the best ways to break a nation is to install a corrupt and incompetent government. The US has successfully achieved this objective in Pakistan. The present government installed by USA in 2008 is at the beck and call of Washington. The sole interest of the NRO cleansed rulers is to prolong their stay in power and to keep filling their coffers with ill-gotten money. For the attainment of these selfish interests they have sold their souls and put national interests at stake.

They are fighting the judiciary tooth and nail to preserve their looted wealth. They have damaged and humiliated Pakistan in a way which neither India nor Israel could do militarily. Their massive corruption, nepotism and lavish lifestyle have devastated the economic, ideological, industrial, social and political structure of Pakistan. Above all, there is no dearth of fifth columnists and snakes in the grass.

Regrettably, the US has found o ut the solution to destroy a Muslim atomic power through corrupt democracy in Pakistan. The US and India under the garb of friendship have been ruthlessly bashing Pakistan on the media plane and through covert and drone wars but our dishonest leaders continue to appease the bashers.

After destabilizing FATA and Balochistan and creating lawlessness in Karachi, and after resorting to water terrorism by building series of dams on our rivers to dry up Pakistan, India with the willing connivance of our rulers is now poised to wage an economic war to cripple our economy.

It has opened up her border for Pakistani industrialists who are already depressed because of prolonged load shedding and are shifting to Malaysia, Indonesia and Bangladesh. One can now see and understand why and how cleverly our energy crisis has been used as a weapon against us. It is essentially because of our morally bankrupt leadership that our nuclear deterrence has almost been compromised.

Although both Iran and Pakistan are ripe for foreign intervention, it cannot be predicted at this stage which country the US will choose to strike first. Apparently Iran seems to be priority target because of certain compelling reasons. Israel is becoming itchy and desperate and is putting massive pressure on USA to strike Iran`s nuclear sites before it acquires weaponized nuclear capability. The US is reluctant since it is still in a precarious situation in Afghanistan. Its economy is not getting stabilized and expenditure on war on terror is too weighty.

The Americans would not like opening of another war front. Rather, they want early termination of war on terror and return of soldiers who are getting killed almost daily. NATO countries are also wary of the war and have announced their intentions of pulling out of Afghanistan much before the cut out date of December 2014. Europe itself is going through serious economic crisis. Given the oil stakes of Russia and China in Iran, US-Israeli intrusion may trigger world war.

Although conflict is in the interest of USA since it helps in running its war industry, however, after its bitter experience in Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq, the US would refrain from employing its combat troops in any future conflict zone. It would prefer to achieve its objectives by using covert means supplemented by drones, air-power, psychological and cyber warfare.

Afghan resistance has proved too costly since few thousand ill-equipped Taliban have rolled the honor and prestige of the sole super power in the dust. It is pulling out without defeating the Taliban and without arriving at a political settlement. Safe withdrawal of ISAF and its heavy baggage has become a big challenge.

These lurking fears and anxieties of USA are proving to be blessing in disguise for Pakistan and may prove helpful since it is the only country that can help a great deal in surmounting these formidable challenges in 2014. Other reasons why Pakistan may not be preferred over Iran is that it acts as the best bridge for Afghanistan and Central Asia and also provides deep-water seaport facility at Gawadar. Unstable Pakistan will hamper the withdrawal of ISAF as well as future commercial activities through the envisaged energy corridor.

Irrespective of the compulsions of USA, it cannot be denied that Pakistan is a target and not an ally of USA and sooner than later its turn will come. No amount of sacrifices rendered by Pakistan will satisfy USA. Nuclear Pakistan is unacceptable to the adversarial trio. Hence the apparent thawing of our relations with the US must not mislead us into believing that the US has cancelled its hidden objective to denuclearize Pakistan.

Signing of Indo-Afghanistan and US-Afghanistan strategic partnership accords are ominous signs. Our western front will certainly get activated in any future Indo-Pak war. Our military must work out contingencies to deal with dangerous twin threat scenario backed by USA and Israel which is no more an illusion but a reality.
