Islamist insurgents pose with their weapons for the media in Somalia`s capital Mogadishu, January 16, 2009.
Forum Member Argues Al-Qa`ida, MYM Turning County Into Second Afghanistan On 28 January, a forum member posted to a jihadist website an article entitled "Believe It or Not, Al-Qa`ida Controls Majority of Somali Territory," in which he states that Al-Qa`ida controls the majority of Somali territory. The forum member states there is no difference between Al-Qa`ida and the Mujahidin Youth Movement, MYM, because they have the same approach and goal. The poster adds that Somalia has become a second Afghanistan and its territory now will be used as a preparation base for Muslims youths to begin their march toward the liberation of Jerusalem.
A translation of the statement follows:
"In the name of God, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate.
"Call them what you want, Al-Qa`ida or the Mujahidin Youth Movement; the name does not matter as long as the approach is one and the goal is one. The truth is simple; the cubs of Islam were able, thanks be to God alone, to control most of the territory of Somalia.
"They were able, thanks be to God, to conquer the most important city in Somalia, which is Baidoa. By God, it is as if history returns me to the era of the messenger of God and to the conquest of Makkah.
"By the grace of God, Somalia has started to become a second Afghanistan. It will be, God willing, the land of training and preparation for the youth of Islam, who have begun to arrive from all over the world, in to march toward Jerusalem.
"God is great and praise and thanks be to God."
